Ouchie Tenley
I forgot to post our most recent situation with Tenley. Last Thursday before leaving for daycare she had what I thought a typical trip and fall on the tile at home. There was bleeding but I assumed her teeth cut her lip and all would be well. I took the kids to daycare and before leaving decided to check out Tenley's mouth. To my surprise things did not look normal to me so I called and got an appointment with the pediatrician to be told she tore her frenulum. What is a fenulum you might ask...it attaches to the center of the upper lip and between the two front teeth which makes sense now because Tenley has a gap between her two front teeth where her gums fall between. This is similar to frenulum under the tongue. I have read that most people notice their child has this due to it causing issues of being able to latching on if nursing, which Tenley never had an issue with. I have also read that some get the frenulum snipped the same as you would if there was an issue of the frenulum under the tongue which both Tenley and Hudson had theirs snipped when they were infants. Anyway, the pediatrician told me I could leave it be or go see our pediatric dentist to get a second opinion which I did. The dentist informed me that this is common and they leave it and let it heal. They used to snip the frenulum, yet had found that by doing this it can cause permanent scar tissue and cause issues with the permanent teeth coming in properly. A lot of the time this issue corrects itself but at this time we won't know until more teeth come in or when she loses her baby teeth and her permanent teeth come in. I do think that the tear all in all is a good thing as it will hopefully help fix the issue sooner than later. To my surprise when Tenley fell she didn't cry any different then usual and took to a pacifier and was content. She didn't care for everyone looking at her teeth but did great and was in good spirits afterwards acting and eating like normal. We do hate that she had to fall for us to realize all of this, yet all in all are glad. I was going to address her teeth in May when the kids went to the dentist but I guess we got answers sooner than later.
